No Smoking

Smoking has been illegal in the UK in virtually all enclosed public spaces like pubs, cinemas and on public transport and in all workplaces since 2007. (Health Act 2006).

This legislation also made it illegal to sell any form of tobacco product to anyone younger than 18 years of age and the Health Act 2009 made it illegal to sell tobacco products from vending machines after October 2011.

Further restrictions will be introduced under the Health Act 2009. From April 2012, major retailers with large retail premises cannot openly display tobacco products for sale. This restriction will be extended to include small shops from 2015.

These laws acknowledge that smoking is the cause of serious health problems in the UK for both smokers and non-smokers alike.
